The Difference Between an RDA and RTA

The Difference Between an RDA and RTA

RDA and RTA

RDA and RTA? Is there any difference? Sometimes vaping jargon can be confusing, which is why I am going to explain what sets these tanks apart.

Break through the jargon and find out!

What Is An RDA?

An RDA, or Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer, is made for short bursts of high wattage vaping. There isn’t actually any ‘tank’ that you can fill up with e-liquid, instead you have to ‘drip’ liquid directly on to the coil.

The coils are usually built yourself or can be purchased separately to take some of the hassle away. Because an RDA is a DIY tank, you also have to wick the coil using cotton to complete the coil setup.

Aimed at experienced vapers, RDA’s work best when used with higher VG liquids.

What Is An RTA?

RTA stands for Rebuildable Tank Atomizer. As you may have guessed, this tank does actually have an e-liquid tank and does not require dripping. A more advanced tank, RTA’s still require coils to be built and cotton for wicking to function.

An RTA in many cases is a more advanced sub-ohm tank. Although MTL versions do exist, they are less common than their lower resistance counterparts.

What Is The Difference?

The main difference is that one requires e-liquid to be dripped on to the coil (RDA), and the other functions much like a standard tank (RTA).

RDA vs RTA

RDA vapes are suitable for advanced vapers that have the time to invest into building and wicking coils. They are best when used with high wattage, and can produce excellent flavour. If you want something with the best flavour and aren’t bothered about the additional work, choose an RDA.

RTA vapes offer similar functionality to sub-ohm tanks, but do require the same coil skills and cotton wicking seen in RDA’s. The ability to fill with liquid makes the RTA easier to use and would be good for vapers who don’t want to worry about dripping liquid on the coil.

Best Sub-ohm Tanks

The Electronic Cigarette Company currently does not stock RDA’s or RTA’s. The main reason for this is to offer customers a hassle free vaping experience. With the advancement of sub-ohm tanks, most offer vaping experiences that are not unlike using an RTA or even an RDA.

Hobbyist vapers tend to enjoy the complexity of RDA’s and RTA’s, but if you are after great flavour and cloud production, there really isn’t much difference in some sub-ohm tanks.
